Ethics Review for Research Involving Human Subjects

The Community Based Research Centre has had a Research Ethics Board (REB) since 1999. The Research Ethics Board operates at arm’s length from the CBRC Board of Directors. The CBRC REB is registered with the National Council on Ethics in Human Research (NCEHR) [http://www.ncehr-cnerh.org/] and follows the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans.

Many community-based researchers are not affiliated to institutions that provide a process for ethics review. The purpose of this policy is to encourage researchers to participate in a process of peer review regarding ethical issues and to promote ethical conduct in community-based research (CBR). The primary role of the Research Ethics Board (REB) is to provide ethical guidance and consultation to community-based researchers and research participants.

You will find information on ethical considerations in community based research by clicking Ethics in CBR.

You will find information on applying for ethical review by clicking How to Apply.

In order to sustain the work of the Research Ethics Board, there is usually a fee for providing ethical review. Please inquire about our flexible fee structure by contacting Rick Marchand at info@cbrc.net

For further information on ethical review, have a look at the application form and contact the Chair of the Research Ethics Board, Russel Ogden at rdogden@telus.net.
